„Russia’s Europe strategy: what is expected of the EU in troubled times?“

A lecture and discussion with Andrey Baykov

Our guest for the next "Germany Listening" lecture is Andrey Baykov, Vice-President for Graduate and International Programs at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). Mr. Baykov is also Editor-in-Chief of the leading Russian journal Международные процессы (International Trends).

Under the title Germany Listening, the Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft and the Master of Arts International Relations (MAIB) in Berlin have organized a joint lecture series for the past several years. International speakers from politics and academia formulate expectations regarding Germany's role in Europe and the world. Lectures are followed by discussions with students. Due to the corona pandemic, the coming event will be held online.

In his talk, Prof. Baykov will focus on “Russia’s Europe strategy: What is expected of the EU in troubled times?”. What are the main features and priorities of Russia’s European policy today and what is the underlying strategy? What does the EU as a geopolitical actor look like from Russia’s perspective? What is desired and expected from Germany in particular as the largest member state with close historical ties to Russia? How have recent events such as the coronavirus pandemic, protests in Belarus and tensions within the EU and abroad surrounding Nord Stream 2 affected prospects for change or stability?
